My first paper
The first paper is always unforgettable.
This article grew out of my MSc dissertation at the University of Edinburgh, and I feel deeply honoured to have worked on it with my supervisor Dr. Patrick Sturt and my peer Min-Tzu Wu. It was the project through which I first learned eye-tracking, became more confident with advanced statistical methods, and began to understand what it means to develop a research question with patience and care.
Acknowledgements
More than anything, this project reminds me of the support I received along the way. I would like to include here a short excerpt from the acknowledgements of my dissertation, dedicated to the best supervisor I could have hoped for.
If my academic journey were like navigating a garden-path sentence, I frequently found myself in the temporarily ambiguous regions, often stubbornly convinced of my preferred but incorrect understanding. My deepest gratitude goes to my supervisor, Dr. Patrick Sturt, who patiently guided me toward the disambiguating regions and provided lots of insightful instructions. His willingness to make numerous regressions and perform countless reanalyses with me has been invaluable. I deeply appreciate his commitment and support and am inspired to emulate his kindness, modesty, and intellectual curiosity.
